Are We Really That Different?
Cost, a factor that separates private and public schools, may only be the start of their differences.
Private schools have been viewed as an alternative to the public school system for years, which may be due to the cost, uniforms, school size, etc. These few factors significantly benefit the student and their education, starting with family involvement. Private schools such as Hackett create a tight-knit community, making parents feel welcomed and willing to speak out. Hackett is there not just for students, but for parents as well.

Many turn away from private schools due to the cost, but this should never be the case for losing a private education. For this reason Hackett holds many fundraisers such as the Shamrock Auction to help ease tuition rates. This fundraiser not only benefits the school, but builds a community. Also, there is a plethora of scholarship opportunities available for the students which helps cover a portion of their tuition.
Private schools are known for their uniform and Hackett is no different. Following a strict dress code trains students for future jobs and creates discipline within them. Uniforms also encourage students to look past differences and create equality.
“It helps because you’re not competing and makes everyone feel equal,” said student Brooks Basler about the uniforms.
A visible difference between private and public schools is the school and class size. Hackett is no different with smaller class sizes, but this only benefits students. There is less fear in speaking out and teachers are able to focus on their students through getting to know them. Teachers create a supportive environment and help students succeed in the long run.
Although Hackett holds high standards for its students, this is only beneficial in the long run. With its warm and welcoming environment, Hackett will work to help accommodate all students and their families.
