What high school throws the best party?

Portage Central had its dance this past Saturday. Needing a break from school and to get out of the house, a lot of Hackett students, including myself, decided to go. Being more familiar with Hackett-sized dances, coming to a school’s dance with a thousand or so kids, I was expecting a really fun party. But after staying for around half an hour, I was surprised that it was nothing like what I expected.

A lot of kids, especially upperclassmen, didn't show up. The dance itself had sold around 500-700 tickets but all were from underclassman. The upperclassman who did go stayed for around ten minutes before leaving. I have never been to a dance where the upperclassmen, especially seniors didn’t care to come, especially homecoming. Then I came to the conclusion that what makes a dance fun is not the size of the party but the quality of the people attending.

Ranking the dances in the area from best to worst, I have asked some people who have been to some to properly rank the best ones.

  1. Hackett

  2. Plainwell

  3. Mattawan

  4. K Christian

  5. Portage Northern

I have personally been to Portage Northern, Centrals, Kalamazoo Christians, and Hackett’s dance. Based on my experience, I can confirm that my experiences align with the rankings above from Leland. Although at times we may not give Hackett enough credit, being surrounded by great people makes our dance my personal favorite. If you’re looking for a good time, luckily you don’t have to look too far!
