Ezra Rowekemp-Ambs

By Leah Smith

What are some of the big differences between Mattawan and Hackett?”’

At Hackett Catholic Prep we welcome all new students excitedly, no matter where they come from. This time, the Clover spotlight is on junior Ezra Rowekemp-Ambs, a transfer student from Mattawan High School. Ezra had the chance to talk about the differences he noticed while transitioning from a huge school like Mattawan to a close-knit school like Hackett.

The first thing he noticed was how close people are with their fellow students.

“The difference is like you know you kind of build a family around these people that you see so often.”

Due to the small grade sizes, students are able to really get to know their peers. “It's just like a whole community here because you know everybody, you get to see your friends a lot more than in public school.”

Another obvious difference for Ezra is the uniforms. “Not having to pick out what you wear everyday is actually good for me, I don’t mind the uniforms,” Ezra replied, when asked about his thoughts.

Ezra played a variety of sports at Mattawan, such as football, basketball, and baseball. Unfortunately, due to the transfer rules, he is not allowed to compete in those sports this year, but he still enjoys practicing with the Kalamazoo United football team, and he plans to run track in the spring. His senior year he plans on continuing football and basketball.

“I am very excited to get back into the swing of things, when it comes to sports.”
