The Hackett Girls Varsity Basketball team traveled Up North and beat Onekama and defending state champions, Glen Arbor, last weekend. The Girls had a fun competition-filled weekend along with team bonding.
Despite Glen Arbor being defending state champions, Hackett was able to capture the win, 45-38. Saturday morning, the team played Onekama High School and won 46-32. Senior, Alyse Baughman, led the team in points, scoring 17 points in both games.
Senior, Alysa Dumont, shared that team bonding was a large focus for the team last weekend. The team bonded over meals. They also went on a team hike, walking through nearby ski trails to get a good view of Lake Michigan.
The Girls Varsity team has a much younger look this year, than it has had in the past few years. Erin Cook, sophomore, shared “I didn’t really know what to expect going into last year. I was nervous every time I stepped out on the court, but the team has been really encouraging and helped me build confidence. We just build off of each other's energy to play our best”. Even though the girls are suffering from several team injuries, they are continuing to push forward and persevere. We are looking forward to a strong basketball season this year.
The Girls are playing rival Kalamazoo Christian, this Friday at home. The game starts at 7:00 pm, make sure to show up and to support our Girls.
