Hackett Boys Soccer…A Force to be Reckoned With?
For years Hackett has established itself as a powerhouse in boys varsity soccer. They have won 10 of the last 12 district championships, as well as being state runners up in 2015 and 2017. Although the soccer season just started, Hackett showed their dominance early, beating rival Kalamazoo Christian, 3-0 in their home opener.

While interviewing team captain Jack Prom, I asked about his expectations for the team after coming off such a successful season last year. Jack shared, “I’m hoping for a really solid season, this is probably the best team we’ve put up in several years…so I’m certainly hoping we’ll make a deep run in the championship season."

One player in particular, junior Liam Roth, has stood out this season. He has been a major catalyst in Hackett’s success, showing his skill as the team’s top-scorer, with nine goals already this season. When interviewing Liam, I asked why he believes he has found so much success at the top of the field this season. He responded saying, “This summer I got a finishing coach, and was training every single day for an hour and a half…just this whole summer preparing for the season.” It is clear that the Hackett players are dedicated to their sport, and put in time and effort outside of the normal soccer season to ensure success for the team.

The boys still have a lot of work to put in to mentally and physically to prepare for playoffs. They cannot rely on sheer skill, and must dig deep and put in the work. A supportive crowd goes a long way in helping create a competitive atmosphere, so come support the boys, at their next home game, on Monday, September 11th at 5:30 pm. The team is aiming to make a deep run into the playoffs and are set on making it to states.
