Hackett Blood Drive
Hackett Catholic Prep prides itself on service. Through many opportunities, students have given their time to help others. However, few service efforts truly save lives, while donating blood to the Red Cross does.
According to the Red Cross website, in America, someone needs a blood transfusion every 2 seconds. From the moment you started reading this article, approximately 4 people are in need of blood transfusions. In the USA alone, 29,000 units of red blood are needed every year. When a donor comes forward and gives their blood, they end up saving more than one life. If every student at Hackett donated, over 500 lives could be saved.
The National Honor Society at Hackett will be hosting a blood drive in Hackett’s upper foyer on October 2, 2023. All blood donated will be sent to the Red Cross to help those in need. The Red Cross helps more than 15 million people every year through education, blood donations, and relief efforts for natural disasters.
Hackett students need 20 hours of service every year, and donating blood is an extremely easy service opportunity that makes a huge difference. Students can receive an hour of service by simply sitting in a chair to donate their blood. If seeing blood or needles makes you squeamish, or you can't make it to the drive, the Red Cross accepts cash donations and guarantees that 90 cents of every dollar are used to help people in need.
To be eligible to donate you must be in good health, at least 16 years old, over 110 pounds, and not sick. If that sounds like you, mark your calendar for October 2, 2023. All are welcome, not just students. We hope to see you there!
