The United Knights hockey team is in partnership with students from 6 different schools: Kalamazoo Central, Loy Norrix, Schoolcraft, Three Rivers, St. Philip, and Hackett. They are one of seven teams in the South Central High School Hockey League.
The Knights had their first game of the new year on Saturday the 6th against the Eastside stars in Lansing, it was a tough game resulting in a loss but they still have more than half of the season to go. They have played 9 games in total, with three wins and six losses.
Most schools don’t have enough hockey players to form a whole team so the combined teams are a great way for everyone to get out on the ice.
Four of the twenty players on the united team are Hackett students, James Scothorn, Patrick Doran, Philip Havenar, and Vincent Walbridge. James Scothorn commented on how he enjoys playing on a team with kids from other schools, “It’s nice playing with people from other schools because it expands my social horizon and allows me to meet new people.”
The hockey team’s next game is at home this Saturday the 13th at 5:15 p.m. The game is against the Portage Muskies at Wings West in Kalamazoo. Come and show some support for our Hackett hockey players!
