Irish to Play at Kalamazoo College-Saturday!

Tie game, 3 seconds left on the clock, who do you want to take the shot? It is that time of year when roads get icy and high school basketball begins. Our men’s basketball team has their season opener this weekend November 30th at Kalamazoo College Gymnasium against the Panthers of Watervliet. JV will play at 12:00pm and immediately following that will be the varsity at 1:45 pm.

Last year the Men’s Varsity basketball team had a respectable 14-10 season despite the fact they were led by 2 seniors and 1 who led the starting lineup. This year they plan to redeem themselves and given that their roster is almost 100% returning, they are coming into the 2024-25 season with loads of talent and experience. Senior SG Tyler Brand said “I think we will be really good this year, we scheduled a tough season which will be good for us. You know Michiana ranked us 13th and we know we are better than that so we can’t wait to prove the haters wrong.”

The Irish have been working on and off the court trying to strengthen their team cohesion which will ultimately lead to the season’s success. This past weekend the boys went on a Basketball Retreat, to Pretty Lake Camp in Mattawan Michigan. Their Friday to Saturday overnight stay was filled with activities to unite and build team chemistry. One of the activities included taking an ice bath in Pretty Lake! “It was a fun experience, we got to bond with people on our team we usually don’t talk to and it really felt like we came together,” says junior PG David Verduzco.

Ever since they came up short last season, the boys Basketball team has been motivated and working harder than ever to make a run in the Playoffs. The team needs your support so please show up to the games and CHEER LOUD! GO IRISH!
