June and July: The Time to Fly

Let's take a look back at what some Hackett students did over the summer. Ella Slatterly’s summer consisted of traveling around the world and reuniting with her friends from the places that she used to live. On June 11th Ella traveled to Amsterdam and took her friends around the city, going to some social gatherings. She went home for a week to stay in Mrs. Ulbrich’s cottage on Gull Lake. Afterwards, she took a flight to New York and stayed in her friend's apartment. She walked around New York City and went to a Broadway show. After the Broadway show, Ella and her friends walked through Times Square and the Rockefeller Center and did some shopping together.

She returned back home when her friend from Colorado was coming into town. Her and her friend were heading to the University of Michigan for a college visit. After the college visit she went back to Mrs. Ulbrich's cottage for the 4th of July to attend a firework show.

A few weeks later Ella and her family drove to Seaside, Florida for the grandparents 50th anniversary and headed back home. Before going back home they stopped in Nashville Tennessee to see her cousins. As summer of 2024 was coming to an end.

Ella said, “My summer allowed me to connect my past experiences with Amsterdam, Colorado, and my family in Iowa all just in a few months.”

Another Student that had an entertaining summer was Danilo Soarez. He rode his bike along the Kalhaven trail from Kalamazoo to South Haven and back! Danilo arrived in Kalamazoo on April 28th from Brazil. Danilo went to Miami, Florida to visit his aunt and uncles. Also while in Florida, Danilo took a trip to the beach in Miami and relaxed down by the pool. After the trip to Miami, Danilo and his family traveled to North Carolina to spend time with his brother. Danilo says,

“My summer was amazing because it was my first summer here in America. I did a lot of things I have never done before.”
