Lucy Young: The Future of Lady Irish
By: Natalie Burhans
Rookie of the year. The future of Hackett Basketball. The varsity girls basketball team has gained a very special addition to their team this year. Lucy Young has been a very big impact with the girls 13-2 winning record and keeping their game winning streak going.
Lucy is ranked third in the state for girls freshman basketball players. She had a very big impact on the girls 56-55 win against K Christian. And she beat the school record for points scored in a single game. 41 points!!!

Yes she has helped the team a lot, but she has worked very hard on the side. She trains at ETS on the side to help with her agility and strength.
Ask anybody, and they would tell you how sweet Lucy is. She always wants to help with her teammates' success and wants to help anybody score. Senior Addie Smucker said, “She is such a selfless player and she has a lot of trust in her teammates.”
What it is like to succeed as a freshman on varsity? Lucy said, “I thought it was gonna be really hard to adjust, but I have really great teammates that help me remember the plays.” She also said, “The team is really fun and we work very well together and the environment and coaches are great.”
This is just the start of Lucy’s Hackett basketball career. Just imagine what she's going to accomplish in the next three years.
