On Wednesday, January 24, the Varsity Girls Basketball team played Michigan Lutheran High School at home, winning 28-14. While the girls did win, they felt their performance was not indicative of their skill level.
Senior Alysa Dumont, who plays guard, said of the game, "It was one of the worst we played." She cites a low success rate of layups as one reason she believes they performed less than stellar.
Although they may have played down, the team did still win and executed their plays quite well. Though they struggled, the girls were able to persevere and pull off the win.
During the game, Michigan Lutheran played a solid zone defense, forcing the Irish to take risky shots and make difficult passes. The Irish managed to get past it, however.
This game was notable as Estella Cronen's first game of the season since a foot injury earlier this year prevented her from playing. She got her first minutes in the third and fourth quarters of Wednesday's game.
Captain Alyse Baughman has this to say of the game, "It wasn't our best game, but a win is a win." They may not have played their best, but the team came away with what was important.
The next game is at 6:00 on Friday, January 26, at Parchment, and after that, the team plays at Allegan on Tuesday, January 30.
