SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: A heart of Service: Elizabeth Kling

Elizabeth Kling has made her name well known at Hackett through her academic and athletic  achievements, and shows a true reflection of her curiosity, drive, and compassion. She works with precision in everything she does, showing interest in many different STEM activities, such as making wood projects on a lathe, installing wood flooring at her house, practicing medical sutures and blood draws on a prosthetic arm, and dissecting animal organs. She’s also the main pitcher on the Hackett softball team, and played travel softball for 10 years. Putting in her time and effort is something that has made Ellie stand out from the class of 2025.

Ellie was born and raised in the Kalamazoo area and began her academic journey at St. Monica where her love for learning was cultivated. Her love for science has guided her through countless hours of study and service. She has taken part in organizing animal shelter drives and finds joy in donating blood every eight weeks with her dad, which shows her commitment to helping others is unwavering. At Hackett, Ellie’s impact goes past the classroom. She is a dedicated member of the Jazz band as lead alto saxophone, and was the drum major for three years in the Hackett marching band. She was also a member of Theater, Robotics, Earth Club, NHS, and Student Leadership Team.

When asked who her greatest inspiration was, Ellie immediately stated her parents, saying “My parents have taught me so many morals, and have always shown me the importance of school work. I remember my junior year I was in tears late at night while studying for a big AP Chemistry test. Finally, in a panic I woke up my parents at 1 am, and they jumped up to help me for a couple hours until I finally felt confident. They never complained, or asked to go back to sleep, and they made sure I felt completely okay before going to bed. The next day they woke up early for work, and I ended up getting a 98 on the test. I have thousands of these stories, just showing how much my parents sacrifice everything for me, and have been the best people I could ever ask for. I admire them the absolute most, and if I grow up to be half the person they are, I would be completely satisfied.”

Next year Ellie prepares to double major in biochemistry/molecular biology and psychology at Hope College, with a pre-med track. Her goal is to one day become a trauma surgeon who lives in a rainy place, because rain always brings her peace. Her love of learning and service will continue to guide and inspire those around her.
