SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Alex Dumont Will he ever stop running?

By Leah Smith

With cross country and soccer in the fall, indoor track in the winter, and outdoor track in the spring (not to mention his countless hours spent on long runs in the summertime), it seems that Alex never seems to take a break, and is very dedicated, driving to Schoolcrafts track almost every weekend in the spring to practice his form for 110 hurdles. College will be no exception to this hard work, seeing that Alex is attending Aquinas College as a member of their track team, and potentially cross country as well.

I hope I’m just going for track, I don’t want to run a 6 mile cross country race in college.

This track star was born in Three Rivers on July 25, 2007. He and his family lived in Cadillac Michigan for the first three years of his life, then moved back to Southwest Michigan. Alex then attended St. Monica from 1st to 8th grade and that was where he started his track journey. “I started track in 8th grade and it was so much fun, even though my family got covid and I only got to run at two meets it was still great being on that team.”

Although he devotes most of his time to running outside of school some of his other hobbies are kayaking, playing golf, pickleball, and sitting around a campfire with friends. Alex will never say no to kayaking or a round of golf even though in his words, “I’m not very good, butI love being outside as much as I can,... if it's summertime.” When Alex is talking about his hobbies he mentions his friends several times.

“I love spending time with friends, no matter what we're doing. I try to do as much as I can even if it's a small or short activity, it's still fun.”

As previously mentioned, Alex is attending Aquinas College in the fall as a member of the track and field team. He is planning to major in Biology, and he hopes to use his degree to become a doctor. When asked where he wants to work or live in the future, he stated he wants to stay in Michigan because, “You have to have all four seasons” Still, he’s okay with the occasional escape to somewhere warmer.

“I want to travel a lot and vacation where it’s warm, but still live in Michigan so that i'll still be able to do all of the winter activities.”
