SENIOR SPOTLIGHT : From the Golden State to the Great Lake State – The Story of Elsie Copp

Tyler Brand

Elsie Copp’s life journey began on August 25th, 2007 in San Diego California. As a child Elsie was surrounded by friends with similar interests, such as playing outdoors and, in particular, playing beach volleyball.

After school she would play beach volleyball with her friends for hours and have some of the best times. Elsie enjoys going to the beach, surfing, and going on hikes with her family. What Elsie does to relax is read. Her favorite book to read is Marley and Me. The sports that Elsie plays are beach and indoor volleyball and she said, “When I was younger I used to dance but then I lost interest in it and quit.”

One of the biggest life changing events that happened to Elsie was when she moved from her hometown in San Diego to Kalamazoo, Michigan. This was really hard for her because she was surrounded by new people in a totally different environment.

Elsie said, “Going from 2,000 kids in my grade to 50 kids was a huge adjustment I had to make.” One thing that always stayed close to Elsie was the relationship she had with her family, because after they moved it only brought her closer to her family.

Elsie explained that when she leaves Hackett she wants to be remembered as someone who is outgoing and positive. After high school Elsie plans to attend Indiana University and major in Management.
