SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Isaac Root Building and Programming His Future

Updated: Apr 17

A National Merit Scholarship for a high SAT score and Eagle Scout, Isaac Root attended St. Monica for all of elementary school, where he began his journey in Cub Scouts. Isaac worked up through the ranks, and this past year completed his Eagle Scout Project. For his project, Isaac planted trees in front of St. Monica and finally received the status of Eagle Scout.

Also, ever since he was little, Isaac has been fascinated with building and engineering. He loved Legos and built many Lego robotic contraptions. Isaac grew up participating in a Lego robotics club where they would make working mechanisms. His club leader then introduced him to a robotics team based in Kalamazoo called StrykeForce, where he participates as a programmer for the robot. This year, Isaac and the StrykeForce team won both of their district championships out of 40 teams and then moved on to states. At states, they also won and are moving on to Worlds in Houston, where teams from all over the world will compete. To program these high-tech robots, you need an analytical mind and an understanding of technology, which perfectly describes Isaac.

Isaac is planning to attend Michigan Tech or GVSU, where he wants to study Chemical or electrical engineering. He is also thinking about studying computer science. In his free time, Isaac often goes to Spring Valley Park to play disc golf, and he also loves frisbee. Isaac says that if he goes to Michigan Tech, he would love to join his cousin on their ultimate frisbee team!
