SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Julian Barry- Running on Rhythm

At just seven years old, while making a pizza at home, Julian looked out the window and saw the house across the street engulfed in flames. That moment sparked more than just fear, it ignited a deep appreciation for the comfort of home, and especially, his kitchen stove.

Now a high school senior, Julian has grown up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, alongside his sister, with whom he shares a close bond that has only deepened over the past year. Known for his ever-present smile, sharp sense of humor, and a warmth that makes everyone feel at ease, Julian has a personality that lights up any room.

A driven athlete, Julian shines in cross country and track, specializing in the 400 and 800-meter events. His dedication paid off when he placed third in the state in one of his races, a testament to his perseverance and work ethic. When he’s not running, he’s racing down mountain bike trails or making music as the bassist for the band Zero Sun. Though he joined after the band had already formed, his connection with a few members made the transition seamless. Together, they've performed all over Kalamazoo and beyond, rocking out at breweries and clubs with energy and sound.

Julian plans to attend Western Michigan University, where he’ll explore his interests in physical therapy and anthropology. His passions stretch far beyond the classroom, he’s deeply drawn to music, the outdoors, and travel. France and Florida top his list of favorite destinations, and with his love of warmer weather, he can easily see himself heading south someday.

Wherever life takes him, one thing is certain: Julian will keep moving, one step, one beat, and one adventure at a time.
