She values family, friends, and community above all else. Her dreams are plentiful and sound, consisting of southern sun and an improved continuation of the life she lives now. This description belongs to the determined and intelligent Meredith Chenier.
“It’s sort of like I view my peers as siblings more than classmates,” said Meredith, when asked about all the friends she’s made since starting at St. Augustine in 4th grade. She believes that it’s important to have a group of people, especially in the face of change.
“When my sister graduated, I was worried about being alone. She was going to be ten hours away and I didn’t want to feel lonely,” Meredith said. “But all my friends and teammates helped me out and I feel like, at Hackett, we’re all there for each other.”
Her love for the community she has built around her has shaped her hopes for the future. Meredith feels very fortunate to have her siblings and parents who push her to be her best. And even when their expectations seem high, she knows they come from a place of love and feels lucky to have their support.
“Both of my parents are hard workers who have encouraged me to chase my dreams, like going to medical school.” Meredith is going to get an undergraduate degree at WMU and stay close to home. But later, she’s hoping to switch things up.
Seeing how her parents raised her and her younger siblings has influenced the family she wants in the future. She sees herself on a property somewhere in the south, an hour or so from the beach, with a large garden, chickens, and children who are raised to follow their dreams.
