SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Nolan's Suiting Up

The countdown is a lot faster for Nolan than the rest of the senior class. Instead of going to college, Nolan is on the path to become a Marine and will be leaving July 8. However, he is nothing but prepared to endure this. For the past several months he has had Marines training once a week, weight training, and cardio training. He explained that he has to get physically prepared for training camp over the summer. “I am already mentally prepared, as long as you know you will get screamed at and do hard work, all you need to do is get physically prepared”.

Becoming a Marine has always been Nolan's plan from a young age. As a kid, his dream was to become a soldier or go into the army, so not much has changed! However, this dream did not come from watching action movies. All his life he has been surrounded by family members who were a part of this lifestyle, but most importantly he was influenced by his dad who was a part of the Air Force. As a kid, Nolan heard many stories from his dad about his time in the Air Force, but he specifically remembers when his dad was deployed and the more research he did on it, “I wanted to do something with my life, something that matters and makes a difference”.

In the next 10 years, Nolan sees himself either in a different country or state, most likely Georgia, guarding a submarine that carries missiles. He also hopes to fulfill another childhood dream of owning a corvette.

From his time in the Marines, he expects to gain more confidence, discipline skills, stronger morals, and an overall more well rounded person. Although he is excited to take this next step in his life, he will greatly miss his family and the friends he grew up with and from Hackett. From his time here at Hackett, Nolan says, “I believe that I have developed into a fine young man”.  With this growth came countless memories that he will always carry with him.
