Skin Deep?

If you look good, you feel good. A skin care routine may sound too high maintenance, but in reality, the steps for good skin care are not only necessary, they're easy to implement too.

Skin care is a huge part of how people take care of how they look. During the winter season, there is a noticeable increase in the amount of skincare people do in order to try and keep their skin as clear as possible. A big part of this is due to how the frigid air brings about unwarranted skin dryness.

You may find yourself wanting to start or expand your skincare assortment. There are many options to choose from, however, not all of them are healthy or safe for your skin type.

A big skin care brand many use is Cetaphill. Despite being recommended by dermatologists, there are some ingredients in the formula that are potentially carcinogenic parabens, which can mimic estrogen in the body and increase a risk in breast cancer.

When looking for skincare products, you should try to avoid anything with harmful ingredients like Parabens, Alcohol, Fragrance and Sulfates, which are popular components in a lot of products nowadays.

Many celebrities and influencers have a long list of items on their skincare routine, but bigger is not always better. When asked about their skincare routine, many students at Hackett listed no more than 5 items, senior Brooks Basler even said he only uses water to clean his face, and by the looks of it, it appears to be working for him.

Those with more sensitive skin have a bit more on the list, such as Tyler Brand, who said, “I clean my face with Panaxol, take a pill for my acne once a day, and use a cream called Winelevvi. It keeps my breakouts at bay most of the time, and I always try to use the stuff after I read the ingredient list.”

As for one of our more detailed skin care routines, Leah Smith clearly put a lot of thoughts into the products she uses.

“I start with a wash with curology gentle cleanser, then apply Polis choice liquid exfoliant/toner, after that I use Cocokind-discoloration serum and a Barrier Serum for shrinking my pores. Then I use a La roche posay balm, and for my lashes and brows, I apply the Mille hair oil. I finish all of this off with a Curology Moisturizer.”

Skincare is all about finding what works for you. If you find yourself stuck on what not to and what to buy, dermatologists could always help you make choices that are specific to your own skin. Whether you only use water, or have a more complex routine, maintaining a clean appearance should always be the top priority.
