Swinging for the Fences - Irish Baseball

Hackett Baseball has a long streak of success which they are continuing this season. Currently at 6 wins in a row, the team is looking to make another deep run through the playoffs all the way to states.

Senior Christian Willis says “Baseball really brings me enjoyment… and I really enjoy the meals between double headers.” Senior Andrew Rann continued that “Everyone is playing well right now.”

The baseball team culture is one of unity. Instilled by the manager, Coach Smiley, the members closely follow rules such as keeping their hair cut short. It’s all about togetherness, no one stands out because they are a team.

This week, four members of Hackett Baseball are nominated for player of the week in the Kalamazoo Area. Head over to to vote for Andrew Rann, Eli Backman, Preston Cosby, or David Verduzco!

Across both the D4 and D3 divisions, the Irish have the most difficult-rated lineup of games for the regular season. Rann said that “we schedule as many games against tough teams as we can so that we’re better prepared for playoffs.”

The Irish comfortably won their last game against Constantine 8-3. Coming up on Tuesday, they face off against Parchment at home. Thursday, they take on Allegan on the road. Be sure to come out and support our boys!
