Leaves are falling but the Irish Athletes are rising! This week our sports team had a full plate that kicked off with a painful men's soccer loss to our rival Kalamazoo Christian. Junior Cullen McBride had some words regarding the game. “Obviously the game didn’t turn out how we wanted and we are going to learn from it. It won’t be the last time we face them and we will be ready.” The soccer team is disappointed with their loss but is looking forward to getting a win this Wednesday against the Parchment Panthers.
On Tuesday our girls varsity golf and boys varsity tennis team were put to the test. Both teams played away, the girls were at Eastern Hills Golf Course battling for the SAC title while the boys traveled to Gull Lake. Both teams came up short; the girls placed 4th overall the boys finished 7-1. Athletic Director Brian Kosmerick shared the following when asked about the girls golf and boys tennis teams. “Both teams have shown tremendous growth throughout the season and are looking forward to competing at regionals next week.” The regular season for these fall sports is quickly coming to an end with regionals fast approaching; girl's golf will be at Heritage Glen Golf Course on October 9th and the boys’ tennis at Allegan High School on October 10th.
On this Friday our sports wrap it up with a bittersweet senior night football game against Constantine High School. Senior Gavin St. Martin says, “Constantine is known for their good offense which we have had trouble with in the past. I think that us seniors will be playing with something heavy on our hearts and you know anything can happen in any game.” Let’s show our seniors support as fall sports start to wind down. Show up and show love to our Irish athletes. As always GO IRISH!
