WINTERFESTivities
By Leah Smith
Next week we have several exciting events that will take place in the spirit of our Winter Formal Dance on Saturday, the 25th! To kick off this week, the Student Leadership Team (SLT) has decided on five themes to raise spirits before the basketball game on Friday night, and the dance on Saturday. These themes and their corresponding days are: Monday- Linus/Comfy day, Tuesday- Holi-Day (dress as your favorite holiday), Wednesday- Dress to Impress (for our ProLife Symposium), Thursday- Celebrity Day, and Friday- Spirit Day. These themes are a fun way to participate and make this week even more special! If you have any questions about what the themes entail, ask our SLT teachers, Mrs. Stone and Mrs. Johnston, or any SLT member. The week will end with a pep rally, where students will play games such as “simon says” or “duck duck goose”, we will recognize our eight winter sports as well as identify the six pairs on our Winter Formal Court, one pair for each Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior grades, and three pairs for the seniors.

The second event planned on Friday is the Winterfest basketball game, which is preceded by a pep rally at the end of the day on Friday. The Winterfest basketball game is even more important this year because of the exciting matchup! We will be playing our rivals, Kalamazoo Christian, Girls J.V. at 4:30, Girls Varsity at 6:00, and Boys Varsity at 7:30. At halftime of the boys game, we will figure out the finalists of Winter Formal court as well as our Winter Formal King and Queen for this year.
The following day, the 25th, is Winter Formal! Many students use the beginning half of this day to hangout, get ready together, take pictures, and go to dinner with their close friends before the dance. Winter Formal takes place in Hackett’s cafeteria, decorated by Mrs. Germinder with the help of some students. The dance goes from 8:00 to 11:00, and the doors will be locked at 9:00, so don’t be late! The dance entry fee is twenty dollars per person, and Hackett students are allowed ONE guest, who must fill out a “Dance Guest Form” and have it turned in to the office by Thursday, the 23rd at the latest, as well as show their student ID at the door.
