Howie loves history! With graduation approaching, he is looking forward to the future. He said, “I like to think about where the world will go based on where it's been in the past.” So what does Howard’s future look like?
He plans to study secondary education at Western Michigan University. Afterwards, he hopes to become a high school teacher. His interest in history began his freshman year. He started high school at Portage Central then went to Hackett his junior and senior year. During his first year at Portage Central he found his career interest. One of his teachers was very kind and that helped to spark his love of history. He specifically remembers learning about the burning of Black Wall Street.

Some classes he thinks he would enjoy teaching are political science, geography, or US history. Specifically, he is most interested in US history. When asked what his ‘roman empire’ was, he said, “The Cold War.” He finds it interesting because many aspects of the Cold War still affect us today.
Aside from his academic interest, he is also thinking about joining the Western Michigan University club trap shooting team. He participated in trap shooting both at Portage Central and Hackett. Last year Hackett’s team went to states, where Howard shot 75/100. He is looking forward to his final season at Hackett this spring and believes they will do well.
He also joined the bowling team at Hackett. He started bowling last year and kept it going his senior year too. Another hobby Howard has that many people don’t know about is archery. He did archery for seven years and joined the Portage Central team freshman year. They went to nationals where he placed in the top 250! With a wide range of activity, he has many surprises up his sleeve.
