Here Come the Irish’s Top 5 Ever Athletes!
Hackett, being a small school for most of its history, has some incredible athletes that excelled in all levels of sports and every type of sport. Everyone has very impressive marks and records but these are the top 5 athletes to come from Hackett.
5. Kathleen Hawkins class of 2010–she was a four year starter on the women's tennis team, taking the 1 singles spot. She only lost one game in her Hackett career going 69-1 for her record. She was a three consecutive 1 singles state champ and ended up playing tennis at WMU.
4. Rob Peters class of 1971–he was an offensive tackle for the Irish on the state championship team and got elected for four all-American teams and several all state honors. He is the most recruited athlete with over 150 offers from schools around the nation and ended up playing at the University of Miami.
3. Coach Prime (Mike Smith) class of 1974–in his varsity seasons he had over 100 rushing yards in every single game and with stats of 3,313 yards, 30 touchdowns, and on the all star team. It was no wonder that he played college football at the University of Michigan and won the national championship with them.
2. Karen Campbell class of 1995–named swimmer of the year in Michigan twice and 1999 gold medalist in the Pan-Am games.
Heath Baldwin has school records in 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, high jump, and long jump. He ended up going to University of Michigan and Michigan State University. In 2024 he won the U.S. Olympic trials for the decathlon and competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing 10th.
