One Size Does Not Fit All

Following the controversy involving the Prom and Winter Formal dress codes last year, some students are upset to learn that these rules and more will be required for all dances going forward. While these rules may be “subject to change,” the irritation involved with them won't be. In this day and age, clothing is getting more revealing. The “revealing” clothes several years ago are the new normal. It is getting increasingly difficult to find a dress that follows school guidelines while also being “trendy.”
“Being 6ft makes it hard to find a dress that is long enough, not too revealing, and not baggy if I loosen the straps to make it longer,” stated junior Lilliana Arechiga.
This dresscode is very unfairly applied, and it is ridiculous to assume that everyone's bodies are the same. When asked about her thoughts on the “unfair” standards, junior Bethany Carpenter said,
“Having longer legs makes finding a Homecoming dress that isn't too short hard.”
“The battles over dresses between parents and students will continue based on our dress code and what society thinks is appropriate or not,” stated Mrs. Ulbrich when asked about her daughter.
Different girls will look different in the same dress, and there is no argument about that.
