Whether you are one of Addie’s closest friends, teammates, or just happen to come across her digital camera instagram account, most people are able to recognize her knack for capturing the perfect moments through her digital camera. Addie’s love for taking pictures came from her older sister Kennedy.
“Kennedy first got a digital camera and it was so fun to take photos. Eventually I got my own this past year, and am able to capture the last few moments of senior year with my friends.”
She is very close with all her siblings, including her older sister Kennedy, younger sister Elliott, and younger brother William. The Smucker family has a strong bond that led Addie to always depend on her family-“I always depend on my sisters and am looking to them for whatever I need. I don’t know what I would do without my siblings.”
She describes her closest relationship to be with both her sisters, but especially her mom, who Addie says is the person she looks up to the most.

Another important aspect of Addie’s life are the sports she plays. Her main sport is soccer, but basketball has also been a crucial part of her life. She’s been playing basketball since she was five, and soccer since she was only three years old. Her basketball career consisted of YMCA “Y-ball” teams, St Monica teams, a brief AAU season, and in high school, four years on varsity where she quickly took the role of Hacketts star point guard. She earned All Conference junior year, and Second Team All-State her senior year. Addie's soccer skills extend beyond just Hackett (even though in her junior year she won First Team All-State, and most outstanding player), playing club soccer at a high level since she was young, and this past fall/winter season, traveling to Arizona, where they won first place in their age bracket, which allowed them to travel to Texas for National Quarterfinals.
“My teammates are my best friends and are a huge part of the reason I love sports so much.”
Some of her favorite memories from sports seasons include making it to state quarter-finals her sophomore year of basketball, all of the up north trips, and this past season where they beat Kalamazoo Christian due to Addie’s game-winning free throw. Soccer memories include Westnedge Hill trips before games, and team bonding activities.

Addie considered the decision of committing to play college soccer, but when she was one of the few accepted to the University of Michigan, she eventually settled with the decision to join the UofM club team, in order to focus more on academics. Addie says that two more bonuses about going to UofM are being with her sister Kennedy, who is currently a sophomore, and she will also be able to watch all of the D1 athletics, while still being able to play soccer, where she’s hoping to make some future friends. Teams have been a consistent part of Addie’s life, where she has found many of her closest friends, and made some of her best memories.
Whether it’s sports, future academics, or just hanging out with friends, Addie Smucker plans to make the most of every moment.
